Railways targets $140-bn investment

In order to build world class rail network across the country, the Indian Railways has targeted investment worth $ 140 billion in the next half decade, Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu said, elaborating that the railways has already invested Rs 94,000-cr and additionally also, a whopping worth Rs 40,000-cr on the locomotives segment. The move will help the government to achieve the targeted 10-11% of GDP in infrastructure sector. Moreover, the rail sector has already finalized high speed railways project with an estimated cost of Rs. 1 lakh-cr and is in the process to bring semi-high speed trains, besides, three dedicated freight corridors will also be developed on the fast tracked basis, he added.
