Buoyed by the tremendous increase in online ticket booking this year, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has decided to introduce e-bedroll facility for passengers. Now, one can log on to the IRCTC website and book bedrolls along with one’s journey tickets.
The bedroll facility will be introduced on a trial basis at four stations this month, including New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Mumbai Central. “A passenger travelling in the sleeper class has to pay Rs 140 for two bed sheets and a pillow and Rs 110 for a blanket,” said IRCTC chairman-cum-managing director A K Manocha, adding one can also buy the takeaway bedroll kit by paying Rs 250 to the railways. At present, bedrolls are available only in AC coaches.
Manocha said fresh kits can be booked on IRCTC’s e-ticketing site or can be purchased from the corporation’s vending units at the four stations. “The bedroll kit for sleeper class passengers has been introduced on the basis of a survey conducted among rail users across the country. The IRCTC will soon launch this facility at other major stations falling under ECR in Bihar,” he added, hoping it would be a big hit among passengers.
