Now, passengers can order sumptuous food from leading private food chain companies on board trains and railway stations through their smartphones on a real time basis.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched a mobile application which can be used for ordering food in trains via their e-catering service ‘Food On Track’, informed chief regional manager, IRCTC, Ashwini Srivastava.
According to him, the passenger-friendly mobile app, available only on Android platform, will enable passengers to order food from leading food chains, registered for supply of meals with IRCTC. As per the records, earlier e-catering received on an average 80-90 orders daily but the number has increased six manifolds after being introduced as station-based facility, shared Srivastava.
The e-catering facility allows passengers to order meals while traveling, either online at http://www.ecatering.irctc.co.in or by making phone call to 0120-2383892-99 as well as on its toll free number at 1800-1034-139. Besides, passengers can also send an SMS to 139 by giving details of their PNR and seat number.
Notably, IRCTC has introduced its ‘Food On Track’ e-catering services at as many as 45 stations including Lucknow, Kanpur Central, Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Agra Cantt, Jhansi and Gwalior.
Meanwhile, general manager of Northern Railways (NR), AK Puthia, visited the city earlier on Thursday and reached Cantonment station via special train. After inspection, GM left for city railway station and inspected goods shed area. He was apprised about yard remodeling work at station by DRM of North-eastern railways (NER). Later, he reached Cantt station where discussions on development works at station were made.
According to chief area manager of Cantonment railway station, Ravi Prakash Chaturvedi, NR GM discussed yard remodeling, doubling of Varanasi city station to Manduadih station and relocation of goods shed with railway officials on Thursday.
