The public address (PA) system in trains like Rajdhani, Shatbdi and Duronto express will no longer blare only announcements regarding arrival and departure at destinations.
A recent railway board order has directed that these PA systems should be used to run pre-recorded messages that advise passengers to avoid tipping waiters, drinking and smoking on trains as well as taking food from strangers. This measure is being taken as part of the ministry’s attempt to make railways a safer and comfortable mode of transport.
To give a fillip to Swachh Bharat, the recorded messages would also exhort passengers to crush the disposable plastic water bottles after use and do their part to keep the stations clean. Details of penalties in case of transgressions will also be mentioned in the announcements. Most passengers are unaware that they can contact onboard housekeeping service (OBSH). So, the PA system will also run messages regarding this.
